MIXING INSTRUCTIONS
The active ingredients in Kava are called Kavalactones.
These compounds are only partially soluble in water and are
destroyed by heat. This is why Kava must be prepared or infused
using only cold water. Kava can be mixed the traditional way with
cold water, or it can be mixed in a blender with water, milk or
juice and drunk as a shake. Kava has a slight peppery
medicinal taste - depending on the strength of the beverage, one may
feel a slight numbing sensation in the mouth.
Instruction on mixing Kava:
The traditional way -
Place a tablespoon of kava powder in the center of a piece of
cheesecloth, wrap the cloth into a ball, and dip it in a bowl of
cold water. Then strain the bundle as if reusing a teabag. To make a
stronger cup, repeat this step several times, to get as much out of
the kava powder as you can. Pour into glass or coconut shell and
drink. Traditionally, you first must clap before you gather the
shell in both hands and drink. It's drunk down in a single
gulp!
The Blender method - Put a
tablespoon of the powder and two cups of cold water, juice or milk
into the blender, and blend on "high" for two minutes. Your kava
drink is ready. For a tastier kava-shake, you can also try adding
chocolate or banana and blend again.
Note: To make a stronger drink, use twice the quantity of
Kava powder.
